UT student filmmakers win two awards at Lexington Film Festival

Former UT student filmmaker Alanna Wilkinson and current student John McAmis recently won two of the three awards given at the Lexington (KY) Short Film Festival.    Alanna won Best Documentary Short for her film, I Don’t Want to Live Without You.  The film originated when Alanna discovered one side of a cassette tape that preserved a pivotal moment between two lovers from two different worlds: her parents. Through a recorded phone conversation and various mixtapes, a real story of true love unfolds in her film between Navyman Keith Wilkinson and waitress Evelyn Espejo as they prepare for their new lives together in the United States.

The Best Student Short Award went to John McAmis, for his animated documentary, The Van, which has been screening at and gaining recognition at various festivals in the U.S. and Canada in recent months.

Caroline Knight’s Visionary, another acclaimed film by one of our current students, also played at the festival.  Congratulations to all our former and current students for their excellent work.
